As we mentioned in our Joyous Detox post last week, we’re trying to share more about the books we love for reference and inspiration. With that in mind, today we want to talk about the various Thug Kitchen books. Basically, we love them!
We currently have copies of Eat Like You Give a F*ck and 101 (their asterisks, not ours), and we’re planning to get our hands on the Party Grub book ASAP!
Like Joyous Detox, there is some pretty useful info in the first few pages of the Thug Kitchen books, though not to quite the same detailed extent. What we love about this information though is that it is refreshingly straightforward. Nothing is sugar coated. We absolutely love that approach. There is an obvious passion in the words and it kind of reminds us of how we’d have a conversation about our food choices, too. The voice and tone of the books resonates with us, and we love that. The direct, no holds barred approach is so refreshing. And honestly, it definitely got us laughing too.
While the tone of the books is definitely a fun feature, we have to admit that even if there weren’t such great personality in the pages, the recipes would totally win us over. We have yet to try a recipe out of either book and be disappointed. Honestly. There is such a variety. From quick and easy comfort foods to delicious drinks, snacks, desserts and breakfasts, there’s something for everyone. The recipes will easily please even the most skeptic non-vegans!
We love too that the recipes pull from a variety of cuisine types, flavour palates and styles. Whether you’re looking for Thai inspiration, Mexican comfort food, something spicy or something light to snack on, it’s all there.
With the weird winter we’ve been having, one of our favourite quick and easy dinners has become the beer chilli mac. It’s so hearty and filling and it will really warm you to your core in the coldest winter evenings! We are also huge fans of the taco salad. It makes a great work week lunch and long as you don’t add the dressing until ready to eat. And the herbed popcorn? Snacking literally couldn’t taste any better.
Now that we mentioned it, we’re sort of craving the chilli mac for dinner tonight. What’s on your menu tonight?
