How is it possible thay we are already into February? We can’t believe January has come and gone. Now that we’ve settled (sort of) into a new year and new routines, we wanted to spend some time talking about our favourite books.
You know that we absolutely love a good cookbook, lifestyle guide, or inspirational read. We’ve shared countless photos on instagram and have even talked a little about a few books here, but we wanted to dive deeper and share with you some of our favourites!
Today, we’re talking Joyous Detox. This is the second book by Joy McCarthy. If you haven’t yet, check it out along with her first, Joyous Health. We are huge fans of her books and blog. In fact, we each have copies of both her books and refer to them often.
Joyous Detox is such a great approach to detoxing, in our opinions. It isn’t a restrictive juice or smoothie cleanse, there are no strange foods or supplements to be taken, and you can still enjoy eating delicious foods! While the book offers various multi-day detox plans, the recipes are so good that you can really incorporate them into your life at any time, detoxing or not. In fact, Joy mentions that she ate this way throughout her entire pregnancy and we’ll be honest, she looked phenomenal throughout her pregnancy.
While this book is neither vegetarian nor vegan, it does have tons of options for those who require them. It’s also got tons of gluten free options as well. We love that versatility. Given that neither of us eat meat, it’s rare to find cookbooks that are not vegan/vegetarian but that still offer such a wealth of yummy options!
One of our favourite aspects of the book has to be the first half. While many books dive right into the recipes with a brief introduction, Joyous Detox goes above and beyond. There are entire chapters about what detoxing entails, how it helps the body, how best to implement the book’s detox. There is a just such a wealth of knowledge shared in the first half. (This was the case in Joyous Health, as well!) We love that it really sets the reader up for success because they understand they how and why behind the recipes and the plan. Plus, you can then take that knowledge and apply it on an everyday basis!
One of our favourite recipes so far is the mint guacamole lettuce wraps. They are so light and fresh tasting! The mint offers a fresh kick you don’t expect and the hemp seeds offer great texture. We chose to use collard in place of lettuce but we’re sure the recommended romaine would be just as good! We also love the smoothie options, and are currently loving the matcha smoothie. It’s got the perfect creamy and smoothie texture. Last but not least, we are loving the superfood quinoa bowls as a filling, nutritious breakfast!
We’d love to hear about some of your favourite cookbooks and detox methods in the comments!
