October is rapidly coming to an end, and one of the things that we’ll miss most with its passing is a good visit to a farm market. We recently paid a visit to Linton’s Farm Market and found it to be great for so many reasons.
For starters, farm markets offer local produce. Everything at Linton’s was grown locally, or in Ontario as a minimum. Not only does buying local help to stimulate your local economy, but it’s better for you. Food that doesn’t travel as long is able to grow and ripen naturally, meaning you get the benefit of the additional nutrients it’s gained in that time. As an added bonus, it’s also way better for the environment!
As if buying local wasn’t already great, there was so much variety! There were beans, carrots, squashes, pumpkins, peppers and more. While farm markets are great from spring right through to fall, the seasonal fall offerings are some of our favourites. As we browsed, we found inspiration for soups, chillis, salads, stews and all sorts of warming fall foods. Keep an eye out, some of the recipes are sure to be shared here in the next few weeks!
Farm markets aren’t just a great source of produce, though. We also found beautiful flowers to adorn our dining tables, and there were ample amounts of baked good, jams, and other treats. While it’s late in the season this year, we hope you’ll share in our excitement next spring when we’re able to head back to the markets!
