You know we are huge fans of farm markets. The atmosphere, the fresh produce, supporting local farms. We love it all. You also know that we think eating seasonally is so great. It means you’re eating the freshest produce and that its more likely to be local if it’s in season in your area! Taking those truths into account, then, our love for Love and Lemons is a no-brainer!
Love and Lemons is not written the way most cookbooks are. There are no sections for breakfast, snacks, sides, entrees and dessert. Instead, the book is arranged by produce. Various items available at a farm market are listed in alphabetical order, so that based on what is in season, you can easily flip to and find recipes for those items. There is everything from asparagus to Brussels sprouts to tomatoes and zucchini. We love this unique way of organizing the content. Little details matter and Love and Lemons nails them.
If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably found yourself wandering around the farm market eyeing up all the beautifully coloured options. Maybe you think to yourself, “That eggplant looks perfect, but what would I do with it?” This book is the perfect solution to that feeling! When you have to have something but hadn’t planned on what to do with it, there are so many options within the pages of Love and Lemons.
If you happen across a copy, be sure to try the chipotle apple guacamole! It is unreal. And the roasted pepper quinoa taco salad is on heavy rotation in our lunches, as well!
We also absolutely love the tortilla soup. It is perfectly spicy, the chickpeas make it super filling, and there is just so much flavour. When we tried it out, we opted to forgo tortilla strips in place of roasted and salted chickpeas but we’re sure it would be just as good if the recipe was followed exactly!
What are some of the fruits or veggies you’ve thought of purchasing at a market but haven’t been sure how to use them?
